Apartment with three bedrooms, sea view balcony and barbecue, located a few minutes from the Funchal city centre, perfect for a vacation on Madeira Island.
Casa Strelitzia is a traditional Madeira house located in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, with special architectural and historical interest for Funchal's Old Town. Within walking distance of the Central Market and the Promenade do Porto. This house is one of the few holiday properties situated in such a central and prestigious area.
Split over two floors, the holiday home on the first floor sleeps up to six people and the studio above sleeps 2 people. If booked together, the whole property can accommodate 8 guests, a great place to celebrate Madeira's famous and spectacular New Year's Eve fireworks.
Each flat has a balcony with fabulous sea views, perfect for breakfast, evening drinks or just enjoying the sun. Free WiFi, satellite TV, comfortable sofa, dining area, well-equipped kitchen with cooking utensils, oven, microwave, fridge, toaster, coffee machine and kettle. The private bathrooms come with a shower, a hairdryer, free toiletries, bed linen and towels. The 24-hour reception, run by An Island Apart, is on hand for any eventuality.
The court yard below and rear access is shared by both apartments, with table and chairs this area can be a quiet retreat to relax in the cool or used to entertain family and guests. Traditional volcanic stone built wood fire BBQ, concealed washing machine and dryer are also in the patio area and it is access to the shared Basement Garage which offers desirable center of town, secure and private parking accommodates one car park to each apartment.

With views of the city, Casa Strelitzia is situated in Funchal. Popular points of interest near the holiday home include Funchal Marina, São Tiago Fort and Funchal Cathedral. Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport is 18 km from Casa Strelitzia by An Island Apart, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service.
If you choose to go to the centre of Funchal, take the opportunity to explore the city, visit the Mercado de Lavradores and sample Madeiran cuisine in the typical restaurants.

The best option to get to the property will be the transfer. Ask us to book one with our local partners. It is cheaper than the taxis you find at the airport.
If you rent a car, any navigation app can easily find the address.
There is a bus stop 2 minutes walk from the apartment.
ACCESS TO PROPERTY
You have access to all areas of the property.
INTERACTION
We are always available to help or answer questions. We do our best to reply all requests. We also have an app for guests with all the important information about the property and other useful information for your stay.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (passport or identity card).
- Check-in hour must be scheduled in advance. If it is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours before, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also put a baby cot, a high chair and a baby bath if needed, but you should request. There are a first aid kit, extinguishers and fire blanket in the property.
ATTENTION
Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. When you arrive, you will receive a link to pay this municipal tax.

Die Raumaufteilung ist sehr gut, da alle Schlafzimmer vom Wohn- und Essbereich abgetrennt sind. Der Ausblick von der Terrasse und dem Wohnzimmer war sehr schön!
Die Lage ist ebenfalls sehr angenehm, da man die Altstadt auch ohne große Anstrengung zu Fuß erreichen kann.
Die Garage für das Mietauto ist auch sehr vorteilhaft.
Wir hatten keine Probleme mit dem riechenden Abfluss.
Alles war sehr sauber und gut ausgestattet.
Wir waren 10 Tage dort und es wurden sogar einmal die ganzen Handtücher und Bettwäschen erneuert.
Alles in allem ein sehr schöner Aufenthalt.

We would like to clarify that the listing clearly states that there is only one parking space, although we have authorized a second car. As for other things, the apartment receives regular pest treatment and preventative maintenance. We will be checking the situation with the insects and taking steps to improve the functioning of the dryer and the quality of the Wi-Fi.

I was hoping to have a more "local" experience but it was a company that was talking to us. They were responsive and took care of our need but the response times were not very good. The last day the drying machine was not working and we could not talk to anyone.
The rooms are very close to the street so there will be noises early morning.
It is quite central and with a short 10 minutes walk we can reach the old town

Would advise to add a dishwasher.
One noticeable problem, as mentioned in many previous reviews and acknowledged by hosts' comments, is the strong sewage smell in this property, but also in the 2-person apartment above, and even in the garage. The plumbing in the house is faulty, bathroom and kitchen sinks are not connected with proper syphons. Running water in the bathroom sink sucks the syphon of the shower empty and opens a path for smell to escape.
Would strongly advise the owner to get a professional on site and have this investigated and fixed. It is certainly not enough to distribute perfume dispensers and ignore the root cause of this.
I am hopeful that the owner will make this small investment, and then this is certainly a 5-star place worth the daily rate.

Unit was laid out like photos and we appreciated the soccer field and ocean within view from the balcony.
We were able to walk for dinner and it was great to have parking at the location.
There was a noticeable smell that we could tell they'd tried to fix, however it was still quite strong.

Die Wohnung selber ist nicht besonders gemütlich eingerichtet, bietet dafür aber viel Platz auch an Regentagen z.B. Sport in der Wohnung machen zu können.
Die Abflüsse der Wohnung riechen leider sehr übel, weshalb überall Raumdüfte stehen die das Problem eher verschlimmern als verbessern.

grosse Zimmer
komplettes Ferienhaus gebucht (Zitat: "Ganzes Haus- so privat wie zu Hause"), Haus für max. 6 Personen bestätigt bekommen. Letztendlich war es aber nur das mittlere Appartement. Das obere Appartement wurde separat vermietet. Dessen Zugang erfolgt über die Terrasse des mitteleren Appartements. Der auf den Fotos abgebildetet Tisch mit Meerblick steht direkt auf dem Zugangsweg zum oberen Appartement, soviel zu "so privat wie zu Hause".
Gestank auf Terrasse: Eben diese Terrasse war für uns die gesamte Woche nicht nutzbar, da ein permanenter Gestank herrschte je nach Tag von störend bis unerträglich. Eine Anfrage diesbezüglich an den Vermieter wurde leider nicht beantwortet, es ist jedoch anzunehmen dass die Gerüche von der direkt ans Haus angrenzenden Hühnerfarm herrührt.
In der Wohnung hatten wir wie auch schon in einer anderen Bewertung beschrieben Fäkalgeruch, dieser ließ sich durch permantes geschlossenhalten der Klodeckel etwas eindämmen. A pro pos sanitäre Anlagen: Das für vier Personen vorgesehene Bad (von insgesamt zwei) ist recht spartanisch eingerichtet. Handtuchhalter gibt es nur für zwei Gesichtshandtücher, eine Klobürste fehlt komplett. Wassertemperatur auf maximal meistens warm, nicht heiss.
Auch dies sonstige Einrichtung der Wohnung ist eher zweckmässig (Plastikstühle, Holzschemel). Im Grunde ausreichend, für den Preis erwartet man jedoch mehr. Das Sofa ist gross und bequem.
Für die Mücken in der Wohnung (jeden morgen verstochen) gebe ich keine Abzüge ebenso wenig für die Ameisen (nichts süsses rumliegen lassen!), das ist Natur.
Fazit:Mehr Schein als Sein. Wir haben uns auf die Objektbeschreibung verlassen und täuschen lassen, Unmissverständlich ganzes Haus gebucht - Appartement bekommen. Die verbleibende Hauptterasse mit Meerblick war nicht nutzbar wegen des Gestanks. Der leichte Fäkalgeruch in der Wohnung tut sein übriges.

Levamos um bebé e an Island disponibilizou todas as comodidades que precisámos.
Pontos menos favoráveis foi a temperatura da água do banho que nunca aquecia muito e faltavam alguns utensílios de cozinha, como panos e afins. De resto estava tudo ótimo. Os anfitriões são muitos disponíveis, e sempre que pedimos algo trouxeram rapidamente.

There are cockroaches and ants all around the place. I have once found a cockroach in my BED ! View of the marina on the pictures is taken from a different flat upstairs which was occupied by someone while my stay - but its the same house and one entrace and i was told that while my stay the whole place will be for me. One day a new car showed up in the garage without any notice. Water in the showers is not hot but warm and sometimes even chilly - anytime of the day.

As per the confusion regarding the property usage, it is clear that the main house is divided into two independent flats with independent entrances. As for the parking, there are two parking spaces spaces available one for each flat.
