Enjoy all the calm and country atmosphere, very close to the city center, in a nice villa with small garden and three traditional houses.
How about spending a vacation in a country house that is very close to the city and all tourist activities?
While in the center people live a normal and fast city life, in the high zones, near the mountains, the calm and country atmosphere is a reality. In this small villa composed by three nice properties you can enjoy all the calm and serenity with a wide view of the Atlantic Ocean and Funchal.
This small ‘farmhouse’ has three stone-walled houses, with different typologies and surrounded by small gardens. The houses have the name of trees that exist in our island.
This house has two bedrooms, one with two single beds and the other with a double bed. It has two bathrooms, one with shower and the other with bathtub.
The house has a kitchenette and is fully equipped.
Maximum capacity of four people.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
In the Choupana area you will find a restaurant which is a 2-minute drive from the property. The nearest bakery is a 5-minute drive away and the supermarket is a 10-minute drive away, close to the city center.
The city center is a 15-minute by car.
The area is calm and quiet. From here you can travel to any part of the island through the municipal roads that have connection to the highway.
Renting a car is the best option to discover the island at your own pace.
GETTING AROUND
The best option to get to the property is by transfer. Ask us to arrange one with our local partners. It's cheaper than the cabs you'll find at the airport. If you rent a car, any navigation app will easily find the address.
GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to all areas of the flat.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We are always at your disposal to help or answer your questions. You can contact us via our mobile numbers or by email. We will do our best to meet your requests.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (E.g. passport, identity card).
- Check-in must be scheduled in advance. In case the check-in is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours prior arrival, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also provide a crib, a baby high chair and a baby bathtub if needed. First aid kit, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are available in all properties.
ATTENTION
Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. When you arrive, you will receive a link to pay this municipal tax.

Its like staying alone in a botancal garden. The view is stunning. The houses are charming. Bus no 29 have stop nearby and a we enjoyed the fragrance of the surronding ecualyptusforest while waiting for the bus to downtown. We returned in the evening with a 10euro Bolt taxi. It was using very steep narrow roads, as google map suggested....
We have stayed at numerous places on this island, but this is a clear winner.
We rent here next time too.
We prefer the two bedroom house, best view there.
Terrible or Easy access by car!
Google map will send you for the terrible route unless you insert three intermediate destinations. After highway from airport, insert a first destination at ER102 after that have splitted form highway,
then one at where ER201 splits from ER102.
Then one at north side of fotballstadion. Follw the road down along westside of stadion and take 1. To the right (u turn) and you are in the street. 4. Destination can be address for Quinta Devónia.

Mold, there is a smell of mold in bathroom (both houses) and partly other placese too. We opend windows.
Kithchenware was new, but no matches for the gas owen.
Matresses good.
Barking dogs in neigbourhood; now and then, but not very loud, we closed window at night, but had earplugs with us, which we did not use.
In the one bedroom house there are two indivual beds which separates... When we rented that four years ago, we used ropes to tie bedpost together. Bring two ropes if you are romantic and rent that house.

Das Haus hat muffig feucht gerochen - auch direkt wieder wenn die Fenster, nach dem kräftigen Lüften, geschlossen wurden. Die Heizung im Haus funktioniert nicht - es standen zwei Radiatoren bereit - da es Nachts auch schon mal unter 8° ging waren diese notwendig (Den Vermieter - Island Apart -hat das nicht interessiert, wir sollten uns an den Besitzen wenden). Die Matratzen in den Betten waren sehr hart und schon ausgelegen.
Wir waren zu zweit und waren zum entspannen gekommen. Das Haus hatte genug Platz für uns, und unser Urlaub war gut, trotz der genannten Einschränkungen.

Almost Unreachable with car, dont rent this if you are looking to do lots of activities.

We really appreciate your comments about the property and its location.
Regarding the guest's comment, it is a property located outside the city, in a quiet, rural area. Accessibility is not comparable with urban areas and those who rent a property like this will be those who favour calm where nature predominates. Clearly, the strengths of this property are not compatible with the interest levels of this guest.

The house is situated in a beautiful garden, so if You like flowers at least a bit, You will like this place.
If You intend to wash Your clothes in a bathtub, there is a drying rack and You can put electronic heater underneath it, otherwise it wont dry, Madeira is too humid and a bit cold. But with this setup You are good to go.
We will return here definitely :)

Lot of humidity, bad smell, not very clean and no washing machine

There is a SERIOUS rising damp issue in this property, and the worst affected areas are the two bedrooms, with patches of black mould just above the skirting boards in one of the bedrooms and a strong smells of mould, which is not at all salubruous.
There are ants in the kitchen/ living room/ dining room area to the extent that it is not possible to leave food outside of the fridge (this includes food you would not normally keep in the fridge). I brought up the issue with management, and all they said was "we'll let the cleaning team know"......the cleaning team did not get rid of the ants, nor was there any follow up on management's part.
The property requires a big overhaul. Beds as hard as boards, one of the diningroom chairs was broken, one of the table legs was broken, a chair in the terrace has a protruding broken wooden stake in the back support....
Customer service is disinterested. I contacted them in advance of our arrival to ask if we could get there any earlier than 4pm (stated arrival time for this property here on Booking) as our flight landed at 9am. They told me it was not possible as the outgoing guests were leaving at 12pm. This is true, as we encountered the lovely Germans leaving, however, the cleaning company were long gone by 3pm (we saw their number on their van when we dropped off our suitcases to the terrace so as not to interrupt the cleaning). I had informed management that we had a baby with us and were anxious for her to have a nap. If they cared, they could have called us once the cleaning company had gone, but they didn't.
Also when I checked the whatsapp to see where management had told me to leave the bags, it turns out they were sending us to a LOCKER company in Funchal! Seriously? This is a gated property, where the risk of theft is probably very low. We just left our suitcases on the terrace. I don't understand why they wouldn't have suggested this.

- EXTREM muffig im Haus! Teppiche, Kissen, Bäder, etc. Wir wissen um die Feuchtigkeit in der Lage u./oder genau deswegen muss unbedingt gelüftet werden. Der Geruch ist einfach überall und schlafen war dadurch stressig
- Bett extrem hart
- Es braucht unbedingt neue Klobürsten (das war super gruusig), neue Kissen für die Betten (haben schw. Flecken), Stühle durchgesessen
- Staubweben, Haare in der Dusche u. allg. fleckig (Mülleimer, Kühlschrank von aussen …),
- Ausbesserung: Türknopf fast lose u. Türen schleifen an den Böden, Bäder (Duschen) brauchen ein Make-Over
Mit wenig Aufwand lässt sich da noch was rausholen. So wie wir es jetzt kennengelernt habe, empfehlen wir es nicht. Preis-Leistung nicht gegeben!

However, I'm truly sorry to hear about the issues you encountered with the condition of the furniture and the difficulties in finding the place. We strive to provide a comfortable and hassle-free experience for our guests, and we regret we fell short in this instance.
Please know that your comments regarding the jammed doors, worn-out furniture, broken light of the cooker hood and mismatched drinking glasses have been noted and we are already working on improvements. The condition of the sun loungers has also been noted, and we are looking at replacing them as soon as possible.

La finca donde está el alojamiento es preciosa, muy bien distribuida para dar a cada casita su intimidad, rodeada de una vegetación y unas hortensias exuberantes, entre otras plantas y arboles frutales y dispone de zonas de aparcamiento.
La casita (Tilia) está muy bien distribuida, equipada con lo básico necesario y las habitaciones muy cómodas. La posibilidad de levantarse con la vista del mar al fondo y desayunar en el exterior de la casita con la tranquilidad del lugar y el canto de los pájaros ha sido muy relajante.
Sin duda volvería.

Das Haus alt, was kein Problem ist. Die Ausstattung ist bunt zusammen gewürfelt. Nichts passt und es ist total ungemütlich. Alles mufft. Die Matratzen ist alt und total durchgelegen. Die Federn schlagen bei jeder Drehung in den Rücken! Der Kühlschrank ist kaputt und beschränkt benutzbar. Ein Ofen fehlt. Es sind keine vernünftigen Lampen/Leselampen vorhanden - nur Deckenbestrählung - wo man das Gefühl kriegt, man befindet sich in einer Bahnhofhalle. Man hat das Gefühl, die Oma ist raus und nun vermieten wir das Haus in dem Zustand weiter! Das kann man machen, aber nicht zu diesen Konditionen - daher total überteuert! Ohne Auto geht aber nichts!

l’humidité constante , il n’y a qu à regarder derrière les radiateurs , les cloques d humidité … un chauffe serviette électrique aurait été bienvenu .. nous avons eu une tempête pour ne rien arrangé et des infiltrations conséquentes ds la cuisine .. sans chauffage il faisait vraiment très très humide

Haus war feucht und muffig, da wahrscheinlich lange Zeit nicht gelüftet wurde, ein Schlafzimmereinbauschrank war stark mit Schimmel befallen.
Die Zimmertüren klemmten teilweise stark und die Badheizkörper ließen sich nicht aufdrehen, da die Ventile fest waren, auch auf einen entsprechenden Hinweis änderte sich nichts.
Die "Putzkolonne" reinigte sehr oberflächlich.
Eine Waschmaschine und ein Staubsauger wären empfehlenswert.
Unsere Betreuerin Beatrice war sehr nett und hilfsbereit.

Leider waren wir sehr enttäuscht von der Unterkunft. Die schöne Lage kann nicht den Zustandes des Hauses ausgleichen. Das Haus(Tilia) war feucht und ausgekühlt, im ganzen Haus war ein muffig/modriger Geruch. Bei starkem Regen lief an der Westwand Wasser in die Küchenzeile. Besonders in einem Schlafzimmer war es sehr feucht, sogar der Schrank war nur bedingt nutzbar, da Bekleidung darin feucht wurde. Ich könnte noch weitere kleine Mängel aufzählen.....
Ich habe mich in dem Haus nicht wohl gefühlt und würde es wegen der Feuchtigkeit auch nicht empfehlen.

Regarding the damp and the problems you had during your stay, we can only apologise as water was not supposed to enter the kitchen or any room in the house. That problem was solved by our maintenance team, as was the bad odour due to the humidity. The house is ready to receive new guests in order to provide comfort and relaxation during the stay of the next guests.

Driving in Funchal is challenging. With its location outside of the city, this property is a great starting point for hikes as you don't have to drive into and out of the city every day. You can stock up on groceries once and then live comfortably without having to visit the city all the time.
We loved having breakfast and dinner on the porch every day. There's even a fireplace for barbecuing. We have family in Madeira and had them over for a BBQ one night, which we all enjoyed. In the morning, lizards will be peeking out of the stone wall when the first sun rays start heating it up. During dusk and dawn you can sometimes see rabbits hopping around if you're quiet enough.
The process of checking in and out worked flawlessly. You receive automated e-mails or SMS with the required information, such as the code for the keybox, and can check in without having to talk to someone.
The good outweighs the bad and we look back fondly at our vacation, and we would book this property again if the cleanliness was improved.
Unfortunately, the place was not clean upon arrival. There was a ball of hair in one bathroom's sink, visible dirt in one of the glasses where you would normally put your toothbrush, visible dirt in many corners, mold on the decor pillows in one bedroom, mold on several bamboo bathroom items, lots of spiderwebs, oil traces in pans from previous guests etc etc. There was a cleaning halfway through our stay, but the place wasn't much cleaner afterwards. You absolutely want to give everything you touch a good scrub first, especially pans, plates and cutlery.
The humidity is pretty high at this height on the island, or at least it was when we were there in mid-October. There was a musty smell in the house when we arrived and as mentioned above, there was mold because of the humidity. The sofa looked very comfy and we would have love to Netflix and Chill sometime, but it also had this musty smell. Bed sheets felt a little damp as well.
We shared the parking space with the neighbouring house, which worked fine for the first half of our stay when both parties had small rental cars and parked responsibly. For the second half, we got new neighbours with a bigger rental who on top of it didn't park very carefully, making the space a bit hard to navigate. It's a minor issue and could probably be solved by indicating the individual parking spaces more clearly.
Our house had its own fireplace for barbecuing, but there is no wood provided. Perhaps because of the humidity or to cut costs for the host, we don't know. It would be a nice touch. We collected our own wood at the beach only to have about half of it (also the best pieces) stolen while we were gone for the day. It's a gated community, so it was probably either the other guests or the landlord. We were on vacation and not in the mood for confrontation, so we sucked it up, but it was a real bummer. Wouldn't have happened if wood was provided for all guests.

I am very rarely negative about an accommodation. During our stay i tried contacting the renters/my assigned contact about everything in this review but to no avail. Not a single reply. I also filled in their own 'what can we do better' and 'comments' form, which also gave me no reply except an automated message. I understand that not everything can be perfect all the time, but this had such a negative impact on our holiday and the following radio silence turned me to this review.
Let me start by saying that the location is absolutely fantastic. You have a beautiful garden where you can walk around and nearly next to the houses you can have a magnificent panoramic view of Funchal. The nearby stadium is no problem at all. The great and quiet location was unfortunately constantly disturbed by about 20 dogs of the houses down the road. I am not exaggerating when i'm saying that most of these dogs were barking all day long and partially during the night. The back bedroom didn't hear much of this, but in the front you hear it loud and clear. This combined with very hard beds didn't make sleeping very comfortable. I myself like hard beds, but this was just plain uncomfortable. One of us actually slept on the couch.
The whole house has a serious moisture issue. You can smell it when you come inside and and feel it everywhere. I am not talking high air moisture, that's normal on the island. I'm talking serious ventilation problems. Mold is creeping up walls, which were covered up and camouflaged by paint. By the looks of it this gets done regularly. One of the bedrooms had it the most. We slept there, and my girlfriend, who has astma, had a serious cough the whole stay.
Also; there appears to be a sewer leak in front of the driveway (where we parking our car). Every morning there is a medium amount of fluid there, which smells like sewer. Not a great start of the day.
The stove is outdated and kinda broken.

The house is situated in the middle of a lush garden, with no view of the neighbours, but with a great view of the sea. It is well equipped for 4 people. Good to know: Tilia is located high above Funchal, about the same height as Monte. A rental car is an advantage.
We loved the house for its romantic location and tranquillity.

Bei Problemen wurde schnell reagiert.
Ein Parkplatz für den Mietwagen ist unmittelbar vor dem Haus.
Wir haben das ganze Haus (Tilia) als feucht empfunden. Im ganzen Haus war ein muffig/modriger Geruch. Die Betten und Bettdecken waren klamm.
Bei Regen läuft über der Küchenzeile (Westwand) leicht Wasser ins Haus.
Als wir am ersten morgen die Kaffeemaschine benutzt haben war dort noch der alte Kaffeesatz vom Vorgänger zu finden.
Ein Haartrockner/Fön war nicht wie angegeben im Haus, diesen mussten wir kaufen.
In 11 Nächten viel insgesamt 3x die Heizung aus (es war recht kühl Anfang April). Dies wurde aber immer schnell behoben.
Das Mobiliar ist nicht nur alt (wie auf den Fotos zu sehen) sondern auch stark abgenutzt und verbraucht, wie z.B. die Möbel in den beiden Waschräumen. Das Mobiliar und die Ausstattung sind insgesamt nicht mehr Zeitgemäß. Des Weiteren gingen die Türen in den beiden Waschräumen schwer zu schließen, diese streiften stark am Boden, wahrscheinlich durch die Feuchtigkeit!

Teilweise müssten ein paar Kleinigkeiten gemacht werden, wie z.b neue Fugen im Bad oder die duschwand an der Badewanne. Sehr hohe Luftfeuchtigkeit im Haus.

Das Haus ist schön älter und recht urig, was natürlich nicht an sich schlecht sein muss. Es mieft aber ziemlich, vor allem in einem der Schlafzimmer. Das Mobiliar ist okay, aber teilweise schon etwas schmuddelig. Die Betten sind sehr hart, man spürt deutlich die Federn. Daran muss etwas getan werden!
Problematisch war, dass die Wohnung bei unserer Ankunft nicht geheizt war. Das haben ja auch schon andere Rezensenten geschrieben, weshalb ich nicht ganz verstehe, warum man darauf nicht achtet. Bei uns war das Problem, dass die Heizung überhaupt nicht anging, so dass wir uns am ersten Abend bei 14 Grad in der Wohnung ziemlich dick einmummeln mussten. Nach einem Tag wurde die Heizung dann endlich angeschaltet. Leider fiel sie einige Tage später erneut aus, gleichzeitig mit dem warmen Wasser. Das Warmwasser funktionierte dann für zwei Tage nicht. Die Vermietungsgesellschaft wollte uns schon in die Nachbarwohnung umquartieren, dann konnte jedoch alles repariert werden. Das ganze Hin und Her hat unseren Urlaub dann schon beeinträchtigt. Auf Anfrage hat die Gesellschaft uns 10 % Rabatt auf die Buchung gegeben, was ich fair fand. Insgesamt funktionierte die Kommunikation zur Gesellschaft in der ganzen Zeit sehr gut, wir wurden zeitnah kontaktiert und wir hatten den Eindruck, dass man sich gut kümmert. Letztlich hatten wir aber den Eindruck, dass das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis nicht ganz stimmt. Man muss auch beachten, dass es auf ca. 700 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel immer einige Grad kälter ist, als am Meer. Da wir nicht so sonniges Wetter hatten, war es draußen teilweise recht kühl und wir konnten auch die schöne Terrasse kaum nutzen. Da kann aber natürlich niemand was für. :) Die steile Anfahrt konnten wir dank Mietwagen mit Automatik-Getriebe ganz gut bewältigen. Nurdie Kopfsteinpflaster-Auffahrt mit 90 Grad Kurve auf dem Grundstück ist dann etwas holperig.

Auf dem Gelände sind noch mehrere andere Häuser, man hat aber genug Abstand zueinander so dass man sich nicht gegenseitig sieht.
Als wir ins Innere gekommen sind waren wir erstmal happy da uns die Einrichtung, auch wenn sie sehr alt ist, gefallen hat. Auch dies ist leider schnell vergangen da die Wohnung nicht sauber war. Auf dem Sofa waren viele Krümel und wir bemerkten einen modrigen Geruch, vielleicht auch weil das Haus vor uns länger nicht genutzt wurde. Der Geruch Ging über die Zeit obwohl wir oft gelüftet haben nicht wirklich raus.
Während unserem Aufenthalt hat es leider oft geregnet und das Wetter war nicht schön. Wir haben also viel Zeit in der Unterkunft verbracht. Vielleicht stören die Dinge weniger wenn man viel unterwegs ist.
Trotzdem gab es noch viele Kleinigkeiten die den Aufenthalt nicht so angenehm gemacht haben. Es waren viele Kleinigkeiten kaputt (Sieb in der Küche, der Fön ist mir, als ich ihn eingesteckt habe, in den Händen explodiert was gefährlich war).
Die Bettdecken waren so alt, man hat bei Licht gesehen wie gelb und braun sie innen sind ( wahrscheinlich von Schweiß).
Ich weiß nicht ob das auf Madeira normal ist, aber man darf kein Papier in die Toiletten schmeißen, such kein Toilettenpapier, sondern muss sie in einem externen Mülleimer entsorgen.
Die Duschkabine ist veraltet.
Es wurde an den Tagen wirklich kalt (für Madeira - 12 grad) und wir wollten die Heizung anmachen. Diese hat dann leider nicht funktioniert also haben wir An Island kontaktiert. Es kam direkt jemand und die Heizungen gingen danach!
Auch so war nicht alles schlecht und man könnte die Unterkunft sehr leicht so verändern dass es sehr angenehm und schön ist. Leider sind viele Sachen wie gesagt veraltet oder einfach dreckig.
Der Platz draußen am Tisch ist aber sehr schön, dort kann man gut einen Wein trinken und den Abend verbringen. Um das Haus herum ist es sehr grün und gepflegt, es gibt Parkplätze.
Uns hat es sehr gewundert, dass die Bewertungen fast nur positiv sind, deshalb habe ich mir die Zeit genommen unsere Eindrücke etwas genauer zu schildern.
Alles in allem finde ich das Peis-Leistungs-Verhältnis absolut nicht gerechtfertigt, sie wie die Sachen momentan dort sind. Es könnte eine schöne Unterkunft sein, aber dafür müsste viel verändert werden.

Die Anfahrt zum Anwesen ist aber wirklich steil und man muss schon sehr aufpassen. Wir hatten einen Kleinwagen, der das gerade noch gepackt hat. Mit einem besseren Auto mag das anders sein. Das Eingangstor sollte man lieber nicht verpassen. Wer weiter fährt landet in einer Sackgasse ...

Cons: A bit short on sockets, we ended up buying a multiplug extension so we could charge our devices without unplugging the lamps. The bathooms are a little dated. The house was clean but not sparkling clean. Some of the cookware in the kitchen was very well used, and quite a few things were a bit sticky and had to be re-washed.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay, despite the cottage being slightly more basic/ less luxurious than we had expected from the photos and the price.

Wees je van tevoren wel bewust dat dit huisje erg hoog ligt. Je moet wel wat autoskills hebben om er te komen. Huur een auto met goede motor!
