Bual, ou Boal , é uma casta de uvas portuguesa utilizada para a produção de Vinho Madeira, amplamente cultivadas durante os séculos XVIII e XIX.
O Bual está inserido num conjunto de propriedade com o nome “ The Wine Lodges”, empreendimento localizado em pleno coração da cidade,num edifício histórico, que alberga uma das mais importantes adegas de Vinho Madeira, que pertence à icónica família Blandy.
Com uma decoração pensada ao detalhe, onde a elegância convive em simbiose com toda a história do edifício, esta propriedade oferece um excelente conforto e pormenores de luxo sem igual.
O apartamento dispõe espaços generosos, tornando-o perfeito para umas férias com um grupo de amigos ou em família,
Situado no segundo andar, na sua área total encontramos um quarto principal, com cama de casal e duas varandas com vista para o Jardim Municipal. O quarto de visita, está equipado com duas camas ‘single’ e na sala encontra um sofá-cama para duas pessoas.
Esta propriedade acomoda um máximo de seis pessoas.

Não tem elevador nem estacionamento privado.

A propriedade está localizada em plena zona nobre e central da cidade do Funchal. A partir desta propriedade, poderá conhecer toda a baixa da cidade e principais pontos de interesse. Este apartamento está situado mesmo ao lado do famoso Jardim do Municipal do Funchal e muito próximo da Marina do Funchal e do Teatro Municipal.
No mesmo edifício da propriedade pode visitar um das mais importantes caves de Vinho Madeira. A Blandy’s Wine Lodges está aberta diariamente para provas e visitas guiadas. Nestas mesmas caves poderá conhecer e adquirir uma vasta gama de vinhos, que poderá levantar posteriormente no aeroporto após passar pela alfândega. Os hóspedes desta propriedade têm um bilhete gratuito por casal.
Outro must é o bar e restaurante “1811 Wine Bar”, que se encontra no mesmo edifício. Aqui, poderá saborear iguarias únicas acompanhadas por excelentes vinhos. Os nossos hóspedes têm direito a um desconto exclusivo neste fantástico espaço.
No centro da cidade há muita informação sobre todo o tipo de atividades que pode fazer durante as suas férias: atividades culturais, atividades radicais, atividades ligadas à natureza… seja qual for o objetivo da visita à Ilha da Madeira!

The communication was very good with the staff and they were quick to respond when I had a question or a need such as a taxi to the airport which they do offer.
Loved the historic nature of the apartment and access to the Blandy Wine facilities.
The fact that there is no elevator may be a challenge to some to carry large luggage up a few flights but we made out okay.
Took us a minute to understand the garbage and recycling room experience.

Chão podre em algumas zonas da casa, mau cheiro de esgotos, escoamento de águas extremamente lento (chuveiro e lavatórios).

Bual is a lovely apartment and very spacious. It’s probably ready for some redecoration especially the bathroom which was a bit smelly at times. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and those minor issues haven’t stopped us booking again for next year.
An Island Apart were good hosts and very responsive with communication that was clear and timely.

Die Wohnung ist sehr großzügig und nett eingerichtet.
Nach der Halbzeit wurden Bettwäsche und Handtücher gewechselt. Top!
Einen Stern 🌟 Abzug gibt es für das Bad. Abflussgeruch war dominant. Kommt in Altbau öfter vor und die Duschwanne lief aus. Man müsste schauen wie man duscht, damit das Wasser nicht rausläuft. Das war bisschen nervig.
Wir haben nicht gekocht, weil in der Nähe tolle Restaurant vorhanden sind.
Die Lage ist nicht super ruhig. Wenn am Hafen Veranstaltungen sind, dann kann man die Musik schon mal hören.
Das hat uns aber nicht gestört.
Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen!

Bathroom is big, but old, it could be clean, but still you can feel that. But from the point of overall great feeling from the entire nicely renovated old building and apartment, it is not worth to focus on it, enjoy the rest :)

When we arrived - there was no baby equipment (bed and chair) Upon arrival we contacted them and informed them the stuff was missing. They say they would fix it - but never did.

La vue sur le jardin municipal et l’emplacement sont aussi très agréables.
Une très belle cuisine, avec beaucoup de matériel… mais très peu d’assiettes (5) et de couverts (4 ou 5 fourchettes) : le lave-vaisselle doit tourner tout le temps…
L’odeur dans la salle de bain n’est pas toujours agréable.

The shower and bathroom needs some refreshing it has mouldy mastic around the shower and some rusty fixtures. The shower water pressure was very low and we struggled to get a hot shower for 3 days. The agent was not responsive to a request to rectify until we actually had water leaking through the ceiling in kitchen they then repaired both and gave a 10% refund. Otherwise the apartment is well kept we found there were not sufficient pillows and the beds are quite hard for us. The kitchen and equipment was great everything we needed.
The lounge has a lovely view over the park. The air conditioning in lounge and bedrooms were perfect. There was often an awful smell as you entered the building which came from the bins in a room off the entrance. It is an old traditional building and you should take account of that but It is perfectly located in a wonderful area

Llegamos a las 16.00 y nos encontramos con un piso extremadamente sucio: la alfombra del salón estaba cubierta de migas de pan y pelos, junto con un trozo de maíz cerca de la ventana. Las cortinas estaban a punto de caerse y una de las dos habitaciones no estaba lista. A pesar de que Jessica envió al equipo de limpieza que hizo la cama en 5 minutos (quién sabe si tuvieron tiempo de cambiar las sábanas), todo seguía sucio y desagradable. Mandé un mensaje a Jessica para decírselo y mi mensaje se quedó sin respuesta hasta ahora. Decidimos no usar la cocina debido a las condiciones. Además, el cuarto de baño despedía un olor terrible, tan desagradable que no se podía quedar en el piso. Estamos muy decepcionados, llevamos tiempo viajando, pero hacia mucho que no nos había pasado algo parecido. Era como estar en un hostal de mala calidad, pero pagando el precio de un hotel de 4 estrellas. Es una lástima porque, con algunas reformas y más cuidado, el piso podría estar agradable, especialmente con sus balcones que dan a un bonito parque.

Poor management by An Island Apart. Only 2 bath towels and no hand towels at apartment on check-in and NO kitchen towels. We called and were told they would deliver more. Had to call again next day and then we got towels. At apartment tidy up the next monday they left ONLY 1 bath towel and very poor cleaning job. NO broom in apartment to sweep up the glass from the wine bottle that fell out of the fridge. Dining ares walls are scuffed up and really need a paint job. Blandy's should be ashamed to have their name on the apartment. extremely poor value at nearly 900 Euros per week!!!

Will not return to Madeira because of the delays at Madeira airport.
We had to wait over an hour just to clear immigration , being elderly we found this both tiring and distressing . The queue's are entirely avoidable by opening up more checkouts.
There were well over 1000 people in the queue and the airport authorities took no action to remedy the situation.

This is NOT about the property itself but it was frustrating to be getting mixed messages and communication. The description of property facilities in relation to parking it says - Private Parking is possible at a location nearby (reservation Needed) and costs €5 per day. However when I contacted the property I was told this property doesn’t have a parking place. When I questioned again stating what is on the site I was given the name of two car parks near by but I would have to reserve myself. When we arrived at the Lodges I read in the Welcome/ information folder in regards to Parking- “in case you need a  place in the car park. You must ask us directly so we can provide you with an access card and location plan. This service has a daily cost of €4.50 is also stated that the parking card should always be left in the mailbox of your apartment at the time of checkout.” I called the person responsible for Our check in and she asked me was it already booked. When I say no she told me she would contact the reservations team and they would call me. I heard nothing else further. We did get ourselves sorted with a 24 hour car park 10 minutes walk away for €4 per day. We could have paid €9 per day at the one 2 doors down but it opens 8am to 8pm and we were leaving at 4am on the last day.

The house has an amazing, cozy vibe and has everything you need to have a great stay.
Loved the high ceiling and the well lit rooms with windows everywhere.
Definitely will stay here again if end up in Madeira.

Het complex is iets gehorig. Dus je moet stil zijn en rekening houden met de onderburen. Maar dat is meestal geen probleem omdat je de hele dag op pad bent. Alleen bij binnenkomst kwam een buurman die onder ons zat even langs of we wat zachter konden doen met rondlopen. Zelf geen geluiden gehoord.

We were in the Bual Apartment which is on the second floor with 4 small balconies that look out over the gardens (across the street). The balconies are not deep, so you can stand on them but not put a chair on them). The apartment is very large (especially the living room and master bedroom). It had two bedrooms (king sized bed and two twin/single beds), a long hallway, living room (with a comfortable sleeper sofa (but the leg was broken on one side - we just put some books under it and it was sturdy), one bathroom with a large shower, a dining room, kitchen, and laundry room (washer only).
There were 3 air conditioners (both bedrooms and the living room). I'm a light sleeper (in the room with 2 twin beds) and the air conditioner made a loud noise when it cycled on and off. I had to shut it off and sleep under a thin sheet at night - otherwise I would be startled awake every 5 minutes. The rest of my family did not seem to have this problem with their air conditioners (but they are deep sleepers).
After checkout on the last day we wanted to leave our bags somewhere on the property to have one more day to tour Funchal, but the staff at Blandy's Wine Museum/store didn't seem to have any idea what to do with the bags. The staff were friendly and spoke English well, but maybe no one had ever asked them to store their luggage before? The property is fairly large with several buildings, many rooms, and lots of closets, but they did not offer any place to keep our bags. I found a place on my own (in a room at the bottom of the apartment stairs) which worked for us, but I cannot promise that is was secure, as staff or other guests could gain access to the room. We lucked out and all of our stuff was there when we returned.
Loud air conditioner in one bedroom. People in the master bedroom had to walk through the living room to get to the hallway/bathroom. Would not be a problem for some people, but we had someone sleeping on the living room sofa.

Stare budownictwo ma swoje wady: skrzypiące podłogi, nie domykające się drzwi i okna, ale to są rzeczy do zaakceptowania. Brak tarasu na którym można by było miło spędzić wieczór z ukochaną osobą oraz z lampką maderskiego wina.
Wady: łazienka ewidentnie do pilnego remontu, pleśń, wąż prysznicowy do wymiany, bardzo nieprzyjemny zapach kanalizacji roznoszący się niestety na cały apartamant. Uszkodzona kanapa w salonie.
Park miejski naprzeciwko budynku bylby fajną opcją, ale my trafiliśmy akurat na tydzień jazzowy i codziennie od ok 19:00 do 22:00 grałabardzo głośno muzyka i trzeba było uciekać z apartamentu ( akurat nasza rodzina za jazz'em nie przepada).
Minus: Brak możliwości zostawienia bagaży po wymeldowaniu na 2 godziny: od 12-tej a przed transwerem na lotnisko o 14-tej. Chyba brak dobrej woli nie tyle wynajmującej agencji ile właściciela budynku/apartamentu.

Renting a property in the city center has some set backs, one of which being the issue of noise. Unfortunately, this is something that is beyond our control.
Late check-out and leaving bags on the property is subject to availability. If there are guests arriving the same day, it may not be possible. This is not due to lack of good will, but simply a matter of availability. You will always be welcome at our properties :)

Une seule salle de bain et un toilette, semble trop peu pour 6 personnes. Fortes odeurs d'égoux dans la salle de bain.

Parking a 10 minutos caminando por 3,40€ al día. (Parking Santa Lucia)
Apartamento grande, limpio y equipado con todo lo necesario.
El baño olía mal, podría solucionarse con un ambientador.
Las escaleras olían a basura.
Tuvimos un problema con el código de la puerta y la solución no fue muy rápida.

Ist aus meiner Sicht nicht für mehr als 4 Erwachsene geeignet. Schlafcouch ist unbequem ,schlief schon auf einigen und diese sticht heraus. Unmöglich auf dieser zu zweit zu schlafen. Zudem müssen mitreisende aus dem Hauptschlafzimmer immer das Wohnzimmer passieren was bei einem Altbau selbst für einen Ninja schwer wird.

The building is old and beautiful, but on the flip side there are certain flaws: the shower is lousy and the floors creak. There is a strange smell downstairs.

Apartment is right at city center with beautiful location next to gardens. If you rent a car i recommend you to stay in Parque 2000 - it cost 4,5 € for a day and it works 24 hours. Definetely recomment over La Vie Funchal or Arcades San Francisco.

The building had a bit of an odd smell in the community areas but given how old it is, perfectly normal and the bathroom seemed to smell every so often which I think came from outside, possibly the pipes or something along those lines.

Die Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter läuft neuerdings über eine eigene Plattform, das werte ich neutral, auch wenn ich persönlich lieber alle Informationen direkt auf einer Plattform (booking.com) habe.
Der Altbau weist auch kleine Nachteile auf: der Wasserdruck im 2.Stock ist gering und die Toilette/Bad roch nach Kanal.
Im Stiegenhaus roch es an einigen Tagen unangenehm aus dem Müllraum - das war aber offenbar ein temporäres Problem.

Some smell emanating from bathroom plumbing. We kept door closed and toilet lid down which helped.

Санузел немного пахнет канализацией, не критично, но приятнее было бы без запаха.
Очень скрипучие полы. Если дети спят чутко, то только летать по коридорам, когда они спят.
