Localizada numa zona completamente isolada, a poucos metros de distância da praia, esta casa térrea de madeira encontra-se perfeitamente recuperada. Ideal para quem procura repouso total em família ou a dois. Toda a envolvência da casa é paradisíaca, sendo por isso a escolha perfeita para fugir da azáfama da cidade, ouvir apenas o mar e ver estrelas à noite.
Esta casa destaca-se pelas suas características “open space”, por privilegiar a luz natural, no seu interior, pela decoração “clean” e minimalista. Com 2 quartos de dormir (1 cama de casal e 2 single) e 1 casa de banho com duche, esta habitação tem capacidade para um máximo de 4 pessoas.
No exterior, existe um espaço de lazer muito agradável, um barbecue portátil e uma zona de refeições. Inserida entre o verde da montanha e o azul do mar, esta propriedade tem uma vista arrebatadora sobre o oceano atlântico que transmite uma sensação de calma e paz.
Não há rede de telemóvel, apenas internet. Porém, o sinal de internet por vezes é instável, pelo que não é o ideal para trabalhar.
Devido à localização exótica da casa, os penhascos da encosta norte bloqueiam a exposição solar de 15 a Outubro a 15 de Fevereiro.
A casa tem estacionamento na zona exterior da propriedade.
ÁREA
A casa está localizada na costa norte da Ilha da Madeira, em São Jorge, freguesia do concelho de Santana. Por estar situada numa zona isolada, junto ao mar, está a 14 minutos de distância de carro do centro de São Jorge (onde pode encontrar um mini mercado) e a 16 minutos do centro do Arco de São Jorge, freguesia vizinha onde pode visitar o Museu do Vinho e da Vinha.
O bar mais próximo da casa fica a 10 minutos de distância de carro. O centro histórico do concelho de Santana fica a 24 minutos de distância de carro. Aí pode encontrar um supermercado, vários bares e restaurantes. Aproveite ainda para visitar as Casas Típicas de Santana, o Teleférico da Rocha do Navio e o Parque Temático da Madeira.
Contemple as vistas sobre a costa norte da Ilha visitando os miradouros mais próximos da casa. Em São Jorge vai encontrar pontos turísticos como o Miradouro da Vigia, as Ruínas de São Jorge e a Ponta de São Jorge. Na freguesia ao lado, perto do centro do Arco de São Jorge encontra o Miradouro do Arco de São Jorge e o Miradouro do Cabo Aéreo. Ambos ficam a cerca de 25 minutos de carro desde a Casa da Rocha. Mais próximo encontra o Miradouro das Cabanas, a 14 minutos de carro.
Para chegar ao início do trilho mais próximo da casa, a Levada do Rei, vai percorrer 4,6 km de carro durante cerca de 12 minutos.
A cidade do Funchal está a cerca de 1h de distância de carro.
COMO CHEGAR
A melhor opção para chegar à casa é alugar carro, sendo que também poderá ser útil caso pretenda deslocar-se para conhecer os principais pontos turísticos desta zona. Destacamos especial atenção para o local, que é bastante isolado, para a escolha do veículo, que deve ter uma boa potência para as subidas, e para as capacidades de condução, que devem ser excelentes, porque o caminho até lá é sinuoso.

Très mauvaise expérience, la route d’accès est la route la plus dangereuse que j’ai eu à pratiquer dans ma vie , alors qu’il était indiqué wifi instable , il n’y avait aucun réseau wifi et aucune réaction malgré mes demandes , le réseau téléphonique est quasi nul . Nous avons du quitter le logement après 2 nuits car tous ces éléments nous ont mis dans une situation très inconfortable voir dangereuse , nous avons demandé un dédommagement pour le défaut d‘information reste sans réponse de la part de l’hôtel , je déconseille fortement un séjour dans ce logement

The house is amazing, we had a great time In this accommodation- very recommended! It is very secluded and calm🙂 The interior is very cozy, had all the necessary equipment for cooking and barbecue on the terrace. The view is stunning - very beautiful location. For cat lovers there is a great bonus - there are cats that are coming from time to time to the terrace of the house - they are very cute and friendly - we recommend to grab some additional food to have something to feed them🙂

A beautiful airbnb. It is right on the beach and there is no one else around so we had it all to ourselves. The house itself is lovely and well maintained. Location is right at the bottom of a hill so the drive down/up is a bit steep so would definitely need a car here!

We have really enjoyed this beautiful place and house en oceanview. This was very peaceful in spite of or thanks to the noise of the Ocean.
The only thing we didn’t like was the early mail of the check-out at half of the week!

Het huisje is geweldig! Als we geen activiteiten deden waren we maar al te graag bij het huisje. Heerlijk rustige omgeving (is wel een soort uitzichtpunt voor de deur, maar we hebben daar echt maar 5 keer mensen gezien in een weektijd). Het fijnste waren de zeegeluiden en de rode stoelen buiten & natuurlijk de hangmat! Ook de katjes bij het huisje waren heel schattig. We hebben genoten :) En missen het huisje nu al. Aanrader dus!

A very pretty location, but actually was so difficult to get to so go grocery shopping before you make your way down and get a ton of water! The WiFi was also very spotty & no cell service . There are also cats that hang around and the owners seem to feed them and let them in the house so if you have allergies be aware of that - there was cat food & cat hair in the house. With the cats is hard to keep the doors open as they try to get in and ruins the experience as there is no air conditioning. We ended up getting a hotel for our second night because some of our party were very allergic. Overall the other facilities were nice but quite a small space and the outdoor space was great. The charcoal grill was great to use so that was fun.

sehr ruhige erholsame Lage, tolle Ausstattung des Hauses, guter Schnitt Dass keine Mobilfunknetz vorhanden ist (man muss ca. 50 m auf der Strasse weitergehen und hat dann einen Minimalempfang) war bekannt und nicht problematisch, leider funktionierte das WLAN aber auch nicht verlässlich (sehr langsam und ständig unterbrochen) (auch letztere ist kein Problem, wenn man es weiß),
Haus liegt direkt am Wasser unterhalb der Nordsteilküste, man fährt also ca. 400 m in Serpentinen bergab in eine lange Sackgasse, das muss man nur wissen, wenn man es bucht (dann ist es toll!) :)

The view. The appartament have a terrible smell of mold, the rooms are very small and toilette don't have any confort (less than 2 square meters), is in an area where the phone doesn't have any connections signal of wif router very bad, if you need a place to be isolated from the world it s perfect.

Amazing location, you really feel away from the world! Because of other reviews we expected little sun at the end of February, but we could sunbathe all day at the house and even swim in the natural pool in front of the house! We had an amazing, relaxing stay. The road to and from the house is good (paved etc), but it is steep. You might want to minimise the trips away from the house, but with this location that might not be too bad..

The house impressed us a lot first of all with its stunning location, with its comfy and beautiful design and surroundings. The hosts also impressed us with a complementary products like lot of fruits, bread, wine and other food. You should know that the network may not work, but the house has wifi. The road may be challenging for somebody because of its inclination but it is normal for roads in Madeira.
I highly recommend this place because its so peaceful, it have all amenities you may need and the views are just incredible.

Die Unterkunft war klein aber fein und für 2 Personen vollkommen ausreichend. Reizend waren auch die Katzen (bei einer Allergie würde ich eher eine andere Unterkunft wählen) - hier kann ich auch nur an alle appellieren etwas Futter (für Junior Katzen, damit es auch die kleinen essen können - kostet keine 4 Euro) zu kaufen oder zumindest Wasser hinzustellen. Keines der Tiere war aggressiv oder ähnliches, es war toll zu sehen wie sie mit der Zeit etwas zutraulicher geworden sind. Man hat zwar Nachbarn, aber die beruhigenden Geräusche der Wellen überdecken alles. Ich habe mich dort sehr sehr wohl gefühlt!

This is a striking accommodation because of its wild isolation and direct views on the ocean. Beware the drive downhill is quite a ride! We loved how well equipped the place was (bbq, coffee maker, big fridge freezer). There were a few small surprises: you cannot drink the tap water, the rooms are very hot (if you open the windows you risk letting in mosquitoes but there are two fans) and we were visited by up to 8 local cats begging for food.

The check-in process was excellent, good communication from well before our arrival. On arrival, we found all the essentials and more, fresh fruit, wine, charcoal, and fire starters, as well as all the required cleaning products. All more than we have experienced with previous accommodation.
The facility is also well equipped for teenagers, WiFi, plugs for UK and EU as well as ample USB ports. The BBQ equipment is ample, be warned the charcoal in Madeira is not great.
We loved the location, crashing waves, banana plants, papaya trees, all you need to unwind. The facilities in the cottage are all adequate and we did not want for anything. Nothing, the ferile cats are initially a concern but ignore them and they drift off.

We absolutely loved this house. It took a while to get there, but was worth the drive - so peaceful and beautiful, with the constant sound of the sea on the rocks below. It was a great place to end our holiday and chill out, relaxing in the sun and walking along the shoreline. It helps if you like cats, as there are lots of them around, which was fine by us! This place is an absolute oasis. The view makes you feel like you are at the edge of the earth in the best way possible. The check-in instructions were easy to follow and very helpful. The company is very responsive and made us feel extremely safe throughout the process.
The road down the mountain is intimidating. Be sure to drive slow and take your time; the incline is no joke. However; if you are willing to make the trek, the view, the cute kittens, and the privacy are worth it.
Overall, the stay was a once in a lifetime experience that I would recommend to my fellow adventurers.

Très bon séjour dans cette maison tout confort. Vue magnifique sur l'océan sans vis à vis, idéal pour se reposer. À noter : il faut descendre tout en bas sur quelques kilomètres avant d'arriver à la maison. Pas de réseau mais wifi ok.

Our oceanfront cottage in Rocha da Baixo was amazing. The place was perfect for my wife and I to adventure around the island, a great base camp that had everything we needed. Beatriz was so kind to meet us and give us the necessary heads up on a few items. You need to bring your own drinking water, not a big deal. Also, the road down to the cottage from the main road is crazy, it's about 3K of twists and turns that probably drop you at least 1000 ft. Arriving our first night in the dark was crazy, but actually really enjoyed driving up and down daily during the rest of our stay. There was hardly anyone in the neighborhood during our stay, so it gave us the remote feel we were looking for. The gardeners dropped off bananas from the tree in the yard which was quite nice. There are feral cats all over the island and the cottage is no exception. I could care less, but my wife not a fan:) Just giving future guests a heads up.
Overall a great stay in a fantastic, remote location!

Gute Lage mit Meerblick in einem verlassenen Dorf ohne Infrastruktur (Bäcker etc.). 10 wilde Katzen auf der Terrasse, bei jeder Mahlzeit. Mietpreis unangemessen hoch, es handelt sich um ein kleines Holzfertighäuschen auf halbfertiger Terrasse, kleinen Zimmern, sehr kleinem Bad. Preis-Leistung stimmt nicht. Bei Fragen/Wünschen soll man sich an die Vermieter wenden, erhält dann aber nicht einmal eine Antwort (wir hatten nach Holz für die Feuerschale gefragt). Bettkasten dreckig.

Amazing location, defo recommend as it was just a whole vibe staying there. 10/10 for ages 18+ however would say for older people or young families.
Very remote (no signal) but a decent wifi connection, occasionally dropped out but we maybe had 9 devices on it at once.
Cannot fault the property in terms of location, 10 min drive to get back to a main road and was access to a super market.
Lots of cats on the property, we counted 5 and it the doors were left open they happily would walk in so just soemthing to be aware of!

AMAZING location, and very remote (no signal) down a narrow hairpin road. Great outdoor space with the hammock being the highlight, spent majority of the time there out on that area. Nice bedrooms with enough storage, great little kitchen set up. Now then… CATS we had 5 cats on the property which will constantly be around your feet and will come inside if the doors are open, we were cool with it and named them all (the black and white one being the alpha) but some could find them annoying

Gîte bien équipé, très propre. Le panier de fruits, la bouteille de vin ainsi que les produits de base type lait, œufs offerts par l’hôte sont très appréciables. Gîte au calme, cadre très agréable face à l’océan. Ce n’était pas un inconvénient pour nous mais le gîte est assez isolé, à 30 minutes de Santana. Il faut donc bien s’organiser pr les courses, etc. La route d’accès au gîte est très escarpée. Voiture indispensable.

We had a very relaxing stay here. To reach the house, you have to drive 10 minutes down a pretty spectacular road down. It is very peaceful and remote. Make sure you have a vehicle if you want to move around the island!

Trotz der Grösse, alles hat in dem Haus sein Platz gefunden, sogar die Waschmaschine! Für uns vier (Eltern mit zwei fast erwachsenen Kindern) hat es völlig gereicht. Sehr ruhig und gemütlich! Der Anfahrt etwas lang und abenteuerlich, also vorher in Santana einkaufen:) Ein Paar Kleinigkeiten: es wäre schön in dem Badezimmer einen kleinen Mülleimer zu haben. Auch gab es on der Dusche keinen Platz für Shampoos u.a., alles musste auf dem Boden deponiert werden. Und etwas, dafür die Besitzer wahrscheinlich keinen Einfluss haben: die Strassenlichter, die die ganze Nacht brennen, braucht es hier wirklich nicht (wir haben ja auf Sternenhimmel gehofft…)

In spite of the reaching approach is terrifying but the accommodation is part of heaven.
I didn't feel like this at all my life.
This place is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the ocean.
You need to prepare your self with all stuff you need before your coming because you are far away from civilization.

Well…when I was looking for accommodation in Madeira, I was not sure if I would like rent this house because of the opinions that others wrote. However, I have made the decision to see if it really is as others describe it. In my opinion the cottage is the most charming and definitely deserves 5 stars on Airbnb! There is nothing there that made me give less than the maximum scale. The house is beautiful, off the beaten track, the road is not easy, but it is Portugal's charm. Also the price for me is attractive for the uniqueness of this house. Of course, there is no direct access to the ocean. However, Madeira has few sandy beaches (especially not those for walks) and those that are sandy, the sand was brought from another continent. So if you want a cottage right next to the sandy beach, I recommend going to another place in the world. Anyway, Madeira has much more charm and much more to offer than just sandy beaches! As for me, the view from the windows was wonderful and all day long I could listen to the sound of water hitting the rocks. Nothing is more relaxing than such a place in harmony with nature 😊 It was lovely to relax with the amazing view and sound of the ocean. It's unbelievable that I could experience it! The house is very well equipped and it is very cute that we got wine and basic food for breakfast ☺️😍 Thank you very much for everything and I would definitely recommend it! For all who are not sure whether or not to rent this house…You must experience it! The house is as in the pictures or even better! 😊

Soukromí a klid od lidí, výhled, vybavení poskytovalo vše důležité vč. kávovaru, mixéru, krásná terasa s houpací sítí. Nepohodlné postele v hlavní ložnici, péra z matrace tlačila do zad, byla slíbena výměna, tak po nás to snad bude lepší :)

le logement est situé face à la mer , vue magnifique, il est isolé, nous avions l'impression d'être seuls au monde La cuisine d'été a été trés utilisée et appréciée nous avions suffisamment d'équipement pour cuisiner , le réfrigérateur bien dimensionné Un 'colis de victuailles 'de première nécessité nous a été offert à notre arrivée Le lieu paisible et prés de la mer est un peu difficile d'accés : 3 kms de descente avec des virages Les chambres sont petites, avec peu de rangement La salle de bain (avec WC) minuscule Nous aurions apprécié un lave vaisselle Le prix nous a paru exagéré

Emplacement exceptionnel face à la mer qui change tout le temps. Quelques degrés de plus que les village de Santana et Sao Jorge. Endroit très calme si l'on accepte d'être bercé par le roulis des vagues. Lorsque le ciel est dégagé, très beaux couchers de soleil. Confortablement installés dans les deux chaises de style Adirondack. Le choix Ikea se défend mais il faudra faire attention à la manière dont cela vieilli. La terrasse est recouverte d'une canisse en roseau qui laisse passer les pluies même les plus fines. C'est dommage car la température reste agréable et avec un recouvrement étanche, on pourrait rester dehors la majorité du temps.

A fantastic, isolated spot. Highly recommended for a couple or small family looking for something remote but very comfortable. My partner and I stayed for 6 nights over the new year period 2021/22 and were met by the rental company on arrival who explained a few things. The photos are accurate, the house is well maintained and thoughtfully supplied with everything we needed (including some basic food like bread/eggs/butter/salt/pepper/oil, and a welcome bottle of wine left for us), and all the kitchen appliances seem quite new. Having a barbeque or a drink on the deck in the afternoon/evening watching the waves was really great. While there are a small number of other houses in Rocha de Baixo, we saw maybe four cars for the entire time and felt like we had the entire place to ourselves. A very special place. Nothing that would stop us from staying here again, but just as fyi to other potential guests. The wifi is a little slow at around 2.5Mbps, but we were still able to use it for all the usual things. There is no phone reception in the house itself, you just need to walk to the road. A car is of course essential to access Rocha de Baixo, and while the access road is a little steep and narrow, it's completely fine in a normal car. Visiting the supermarket (in Santana) before you arrive is recommended. I am not sure if Rocha de Baixo is usually so quiet or if it's just the winter months.
It also has to be said that, as Rocha de Baixo is on the north side of the island, and due to the cliff behind the house, there is actually no direct sunlight on the house in December (however I imagine it is different in other seasons!), but in spite of this there is still lots of light and we still really, really, enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for somewhere peaceful and remote to call your own.

The road is not only winding but very steep so brace yourself. I wouldn't recommend going in the Autumn/Winter months as with the shorter days you don't fully get to enjoy the outdoor space and I think you'll have a better experience in the summer. The location is secluded, there are a handful of houses around but there was not a single person staying in the area other than us and given the road being quite challenging we felt more isolated than expected. The fresh bread, cheese and fruit were a nice touch but unfortunately the check-in experience and stay didn't meet our expectations.
