Appartement (T1) dans un bâtiment historique qui, dans le passé, a été un espace culturel de grande importance à Funchal, ayant fonctionné pendant un certain temps comme un cinéma. Ce bâtiment de trois étages aborde une décoration avec différents thèmes de certains des grands classiques du septième art.
Cet appartement est situé au rez-de-chaussée d'un ancien espace culturel, aujourd'hui entièrement rénové, transformé et décoré avec des détails qui font référence à l'Afrique et aux films des années 50 qui s'y sont déroulés (Tarzan).
La décoration a été pensée dans les moindres détails et combine des éléments culturels avec ce qui est le plus recherché dans un contexte de voyage : praticité, modernité et confort.
Cette propriété peut accueillir 4 personnes. Elle offre une chambre à coucher avec lit double, une salle de bain avec douche, un salon avec canapé-lit, une cuisine bien équipée avec coin repas, en espace ouvert. La chambre et le salon donnent accès à un balcon.
L'immeuble a une entrée commune à toutes les propriétés et est situé dans la Rua Ivens, derrière le jardin municipal de Funchal, l'une des principales artères de la ville.

The low bed and no grab rail in the shower

Leider war das Bett und das Sofa schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Das Sofa hing komplett durch und hatte flecken und die Matratze vom Bett war eine absolute Katastrophe.
Am Tag der Abreise, standen morgens um 09.00 plötzlich neue Mieter in der Wohnung, obwohl unser Check Out um 12:00 war.
Was absolut nicht geht!

Wir entschuldigen uns aufrichtig für die Unannehmlichkeiten mit dem Sofa und dem Bett. Ihre Anmerkungen nehmen wir sehr ernst und werden uns darum kümmern, diese Möbel auszutauschen. Besonders bedauern wir den Vorfall am Tag der Abreise – das hätte nicht passieren dürfen. Wir werden sicherstellen, dass so etwas in Zukunft nicht wieder vorkommt.

Nicht ordnungsgemäß gereinigte Handtücher, defekte Waschmaschine, unsaubere Bettwäsche mit kleinen, kräuseligen Härchen, unbequemes, hartes Bett (dünne Matratze), unsauberer Kühlschrank, unangenehmer Geruch in Wohnung, unsaubere Dusche.

Einen Stern Abzug gibt es, weil die Federn des Bettes bei jeder Bewegung sehr laut quietschen. Wir sind nachts davon aufgewacht und konnten uns auch über den Zeitraum von einer Woche nicht daran gewöhnen.
Abgesehen davon waren wir mit Lage, Sauberkeit, Größe etc. mehr als zufrieden.

However, a couple of things could be improved. The bed is very squeaky, there was no rack for drying clothes and the cooking stove was barely heating up so if you're planning on cooking, you will have a hard time. Finally, the floor could've been a bit cleaner on arrival. Our socks got dirty after 15 minutes of walking around the apartment.

The apartment is showing tiny little signs of wear and tear, big crack on the balconies glass front, the rug is ‘dog eared’ and the buildings front door handle is damaged. The cord to pull the bedroom blind across was missing. Also, the apartment door handle fell off completely upon arrival. We informed them to which they responded immediately, but this was never rectified during our stay. Please note, building work is taking place in the downstairs apartment, no chance of a lie in as banging started around 9am.
Despite these little niggles, it had everything we needed and was a great place to come back to after a long day of exploring. If they can apply a little TLC for future guests it’s a 5* stay.

We rented this specific apartment because of the terrace. Unfortunately when the sun is out, there's no shade and we found that we couldn't use it during the day. The host would not provide a sunbrella or a tarp even though there's hardware for it. The living room couch is pretty but also pretty uncomfortable. The TV screen is minuscule and the sound quality is horrible. The bed was almost as hard as a wooden plank. The host did provide a couple of comforters to create a sort of "pillow top" which helped a lot. We had periodic issues with the electronic door lock which wouldn't lock on a few occasions. The host was informed and batteries were replaced but we still experienced the issue after. We learned to wait for the lock to engage before walking away. The cooktop worked well but the space is fairly limited and we could not use both areas at the same time.

Be aware that the street numbers are „jumping“, so where a house number 1,2,3,6,7 is, is not where the 4,5 is located in this road.
Also there is no key pad outside of the Apartment installed. So you can only get in, if Someone leds you. Please update the instructions…
It is stated that one can sleep with max 4 people there. This is true however there are not two bedrooms, only one bedroom and one sleeping couch in the living room. Thus the apartment is rather for 2 than for 3/4 people. This was not stated clearly in the description, please update.
We booked for three, however only received towels for 2 and there were no sheets for the couch. When called, English wasn’t understood well. We stick to writing and received the missing bedsheet and towel soon after.

The property is very modern and has a lot of potential.
Kitchen is equipped enough to cook a meal for a family.
I’m aware the property isn’t advertised with A/C but it gets far too hot in there to not have it. I was uncomfortably hot every day in October and it ruined the holiday for me. This should be considered by the owners as it’s a recurring comment. The awning on the terrace was broken/missing and I was promised that a new umbrella would be delivered but it never came, so there wasn’t any sun protection to sit outside. The only ‘windows’ in the property are the sliding doors on the rear. When open, this doesn’t create any airflow within the apartment as all windows are on the same side.
Lots of mosquitoes, I know this can’t be helped but an annoyance anyway. Fresh stains left on the ceiling from where previous occupants of the apartment had swatted mosquitoes and left blood and shoe marks.
I was told that cleaners would be coming halfway through by a message on this app, but when I tried to find out what time they’d be coming I was ignored. They turned up on day 6 unannounced and told me I had to leave for the duration of the clean.
The clean consisted of changing the bedsheets, and adding clean towels. They didn’t even take away the old ones! I bought expensive kitchen towel and they replaced it with cheap stuff and took the expensive one away. They didn’t clean the floor, and there’s no broom provided so it got dirty by the end of my stay.
The apartment uses a digital code and electric lock instead of a physical key. The lock doesn’t always work properly which doesn’t fill you with faith when you’re sleeping or out.
The electric hob in the kitchen is small and doesn’t allow you to use two pans at once. Bad design.
The washing machine leaks water on the floor.
The sofa is impossible to sit on without sliding off because the cushions are at an angle. Means relaxing on it in the evening is impossible.

As you can understand, the property is advertise without AC, so, from the beginning it was explicit. Unfortunately, due to being on a tropical island, mosquitos are a problem in the island, somethings are out of our control.

We will take into account the issues you mentioned and fix it as soon as possible.

Check-in experience was frustrating. There were issues with the first door code (pin pad was faulty which lasted for the full trip, in the end the main door was left open for all), curtain rods fell completely, and trouble with the apartment lock. The host was responsive and sent maintenance to help quickly, though one of them was extremely rude and refused to give us the explanation as to why and how we can fix the problem if it occurs again (imagine if it was midnight and we couldnt open the door).
The apartment had a lot of mosquitoes and we had to purchase repellants and sprays for our whole stay (more than 30 that we killed), cleanliness could be improved. Building security is poor (though the island is very safe and we had no problems).
We appreciated the central/convenient location and responsiveness of the host throughout.

Alles was man brauchte war in der Wohnung vorhanden.
Nur mit dem Auto ist es bisschen ungeeignet. Das Einkaufszentrum hat zwar eine Tiefgarage, allerdings geht es auf Dauer stark ins Geld, da man keine Tages oder Wochen Parktickets kaufen kann und immer neu lösen muss. Private Parkplätze in der Nähe sind so gut wie unmöglich.
Aber alles in allem waren wir sehr zufrieden und würden wiederkommen :)

Our flight to Madeira was diverted and we never got to stay at the property but Filipe was extremely understanding of the whole situation as it was panning out.
I had requested for flowers upon arrival and his team had everything organised, unfortunately we didn’t see them in person but the customer service was second to none.
Filipe was very professional, and accepted a full refund as we were unable to make it to the property due to unforeseen circumstances.
He made the whole process (what could have easily been a nightmare) very smooth and filled us with reassurance.
For the customer service alone we would definitely be booking our stay in Funchal with An Island Apart in the near future!

Ein Besen wäre gut, wenn man länger da is, könnte man ein wenig sauber machen.
Kein Parkplatz! Das ist ein riesen Problem wenn man sich nicht auskennt führt das zu Strafe.

Keep in mind you will need to pay for your parking at one of the public parking lots nearby. It’s about 5 euros per day which we thought was fine.

1) great location - facing a quite street, but minutes away from shopping mall, and city centre, close to all main attractions
2) very stylish apartment, just an aesthetic pleasure to be in it. Everything’s brand new (furniture, appliances)
3) has all the tiny things you need to have a comfortable stay (lots of blankets, pillows for chair on the terrace, a lot of kitchen appliances, basic cooking ingredients like oil, salt, pepper)
4) great customer support - very quick abd helpful responses
Only 2 things - there is no dishwasher and microwave oven in the apartment. Not a big deal but would be absolutely gorgeous to have them

Easy access using key codes
Restaurants and supermarket right next door.
We stay frequently in Funchal and decided to try a new apartment but felt it was very overpriced for facilities
Steps to apartment, we had booked ground floor with a lift so assumed no steps
No dishwasher which is unusual for price paid
Washing machine leekes which we discovered when I slipped and fall on wet floor
We know this had previously been mentioned to owners.
Only small amount of utensils difficult to cook a whole meal
No Microwave but was listed as having one, we do tend to.use one a lot.
Shower would only have enough water for one person and then we had to wait to warm for second person.
Nice outside space but the awning was broken and wind would blow it smashing everything on table, and banging windows at night.
We bought pegs and fixed ourselves.
Cockroaches in shower and the worst amount of mosquitoes we have ever had in Maderia. Plus rats in garden next door. We think the over grown wasteland and derelict buildings encourages the insects and rats. Not owners fault we know.
Some comfy chairs would be lovely outside.
Bed was very saggy and dipped to side so we felt like we were going to fall out! Maybe new mattress needed.
It said housekeeping in the description but we didn't see anyone in the 10 days we stayed.
Its a lovely apartment but a bit basic for the price charged. We would consider staying again but not at the price it is. For that price we expect more facilities.

A dishwasher would be nice and better kitchen equipment
The washer leaks, we only discovered this when I slipped in the water and fall.
Outside sail awning was broken so when it flapped it knocked everything of the table and kept us awake banging bedroom window and gave no shade I did buy pegs and fix it temporarily
No housekeeping and loo roll etc not replaced.
Bed very uncomfortable could be bigger and sunk in middle and sides so you rolled together or fall out!
Over grown garden next door with rats and lots of unpleasant insects coming into apartment from it.
Cockroaches in shower!
If two people showed the second shower would run out if hot water.
All little things that if sorted would make this a lovely apartment
It's got steps up to it, so is not disabled friendly but is in a fantastic location.
