Luxury flat, in historic building, in Funchal city centre.

Verdelho is a full bodied and less acidic grape variety than Sercial. This is one of the grape varieties used for the production of Madeira wine.
Verdelho is part of a group of properties called "The Wine Lodges", located in the heart of the city, in a historic building, which houses one of the most important Madeira wine cellars, owned by the iconic Blandy family.
With a decoration thought to detail, where elegance coexists in symbiosis with the building's history, this property offers excellent comfort and luxury details without equal.
The flat has generous spaces, making it perfect for family holidays or friends.
Located on the third floor of the building, in its total area we find a master bedroom with a double bed and a guest bedroom with two single beds. In the spacious living room of this flat we find a sofa bed with capacity for two people.
The property has a balcony with a fantastic view over the bay of Funchal.
This property accommodates a maximum of six people.
Wi-Fi available in all areas of the house.
There is no lift and no private parking.

AREA
The property is located in the noble and central area of Funchal. From this property, you will be able to know all the downtown and main points of interest. This flat is situated right next to the famous Municipal Garden of Funchal and very close to the Funchal Marina and the Municipal Theatre.
In the same building of the property you can visit one of the most important Madeira wine lodges Blandy's Wine Lodges is open daily for tastings and guided tours. In these same lodges you may get to know and purchase a wide range of wines, which you may later pick up at the airport after passing through customs. Guests of this property have one free ticket per couple.
Another must is the bar and restaurant "1811 Wine Bar", which is located in the same building. Here, you can enjoy unique delicacies accompanied by excellent wines. Our guests are granted an exclusive discount in this fantastic space.
In the city centre there is plenty of information about all kinds of activities you can do during your holiday: cultural activities, radical activities, activities linked to nature... whatever the purpose of your visit to Madeira Island!

GETTING AROUND
The best option to get to the property will be the transfer. Ask us to book one with our local partners. It is cheaper than the taxis you find at the airport.
If you rent a car, any navigation app can easily find the address.

ACCESS TO PROPERTY
You have access to all areas of the property.

INTERACTION
We are always available to help or answer questions. We do our best to reply all requests. We also have an app for guests with all the important information about the property and other useful information for your stay.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (passport or identity card).
- Check-in hour must be scheduled in advance. If it is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours before, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also put a baby cot, a high chair and a baby bath if needed, but you should request. There are a first aid kit, extinguishers and fire blanket in the property.

ATTENTION
Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. When you arrive, you will receive a link to pay this municipal tax.

Very mixed experience. We found the apartment uncomfortable and in very desperate need of updating, fixing and attention. But in a nice location (15 minute walk to old town with a nice walk along the sea front). The pictures show two bathrooms but the shower in one bathroom is unusable (no water pressure and temperature adjustment does not work well). Kitchen lacks adequate power sockets and knives blunt. Did not use washing machine as clothes drying rack completely rusted and did not want to risk rust stains on our clothes. Mattresses hard. Whole place feels rather depressing inside and we avoided lounging and relaxing there. Drab atmosphere.

Location was excellent right in centre of Funchal. Everything you needed as a home from home, beds were very comfortable. Lovely that you left us some wine as a welcome gift thank you.
Some of the curtains were not all secured to the hooks on the rails, heater in lounge was very noisy, the one in garden facing bedroom didn't work at all but there was a radiator provided instead. Chair on balcony had a hole in it and only enough for 3 people when there were 4 of us. Just little attentions to details really.

Central in Funchal, beautiful but worn apartment.
We have stayed in this apartment three years ago and was looking forward to go back. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to our expectations. Some examples:
- the parking card and voucher for the museum wasn’t available as described
- lamps at the terasse and in the bed room was out of order
- there wasn’t enough coffee mugs for the family
- there were no toilet paper or soap in one of the bathrooms
- furniture is worn, sofa outside is broken

The staff corresponded quickly but the maintenance of this apartment has clearly not been kept up and today it isn’t worth the money anymore

It was beautiful and so spacious. The outside deck was small but nice with a view. Had laundry and everything you needed in the kitchen including an espresso machine.
It was on the 3rd floor with lots of steps. The rooms were labeled with the name of wine but we never were told that just room 3. The shower was broken but they replaced it quickly. In the living room there was door stop that needs to be moved. My husband nearly broke his toe on it.

Great location- close to lots of restaurants, coffee shops, and prom. The park across the road which a public auditorium ( with lots of free entertainment) was a real bonus- beautiful building with comfortable bedrooms and living room. Car park close to building was cheap and very convenient.

Die Unterkunft ist zentral gelegen, in Funchal alles gut zu Fuß zu erreichen.
Die Ausstattung der Terasse ist etwas dürftig, es fehlen scharfe Messer in der Küche.

We loved the location and the high ceilings . The apartment was so spacious even having some outside space.
The large number of stairs (but we knew about that). and the sofa bed needs fixing as seemed to move apart

Excellent location in center of Funchal. Spacious and well maintained property with very nice modern style furnishings. Views well worth climbing the 65 steps on the beautiful wooden staircase to reach the bedrooms and terrace.

Die Wohnung ist groß, die Zimmer auf verschiedenen Ebenen. Zwei sehr schöne und ruhige Schlafzimmer, Küche sehr geräumig und mit allem ausgestattet, was man braucht. Außerdem ein großes schickes Wohnzimmer und das Allerbester: die Dachterrasse mit einem Blick auf Funchal. Und dies alles in allerbester zentraler Lage! Wir waren 10 Tage in dieser herrlichen Wohnung und werden sie, wenn frei, wieder mieten.

The place is enormous. 3 floors, literally. So it was an amazing suprise, it is an old building with unique atmosphere. Very very well equiped kitchen, it looked truly cosy and clean. Beds were comfortable and the views from bedrooms and terrace were stunning. And the location is great too, we walked from the building straight to the Carneval on the main Street. One of my best accomodations ever.
That we didn’t stay longer :-(.

Perfektes Apartment um Madeira und insbesondere Funchal zu erkunden. Super zentral gelegen und (fast) alle Sehenswürdigkeiten in Funchal sind zu Fuß zu erreichen. Gegenüber lädt der wunderschöne Jardim Municipal do Funchal zu einem Aufenthalt ein. In dem charmanten Stadtviertel gibt es viele sehr gute Restaurants und Bars, die einen Besuch wert sind.
Das Apartment ist sehr schön eingerichtet und hat viel Platz. Trotz der zentralen Lage ist es sehr ruhig und entspannend. Es ist alles vorhanden, was benötigt wird. Highlight ist die kleine Terrasse „über den Dächern von Funchal“.
Die Kommunikation mit An Island war unkompliziert und sehr kundenorientiert.
Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen und können das Apartment nur empfehlen.

La ubicación, el apartamento está bien equipado. La terraza es muy chula.
El aire acondicionado no funcionaba bien, teníamos que estar con las ventanas cerradas porque si no se nos comían los mosquitos. Unas mosquiteras vendrían bien. La respuesta de los responsables con algún problema q surgió lenta y poco adecuada( lavavajillas no funcionaba). El apartamento estaba muy bien era muy chulo pero hacía falta mantenimiento. Deberian avisar de que hay muchas escaleras, son 5 pisos. Tuve que cambiar varias bombillas porque parpadeaban.

Located in the centre of Funchal, just in front of a green square,
Astonishingly spacious with a small terrace with a wonderful view of the city and the ocean.
Excellent Wi-Fi, a big living room, very comfortable beds.
Two bathrooms, But not on the same level as sleeping rooms.
Everything you need in the kitchen.
Pretty expensive, but rather a good value for money.
Not recommended for people having problems with going up and down the stairs

We had a very nice stay in the Verdelho aparment. First, the positives - this is a lovely apartment in terms of space and fittings and it is an absolutely fantastic place in terms of location. Downsides - it misses a few simple things such as waste bins in the bedrooms, the cooker hood was not working, a light bulb was out in the living room, the bathrooms are very functional and rather old-fashioned. One other big issue (not for us but could be for other visitors) to get to the bedrooms it is 68 steps from floor to apartment entrance to bedroom. When you do this 10 times a day you know it!

The only other major gripe was that we happened to be booked in when the Festival of Cider was on in the centre of town. Unfortunately this involved very loud music on a few nights coming from the venue less than 150m away. We challenged An Island Apart about the lack of warning and they claimed not to have known. Given this was a major festival I don't think that can be true. So beware local festivals!

This apartment was superb and met all our needs
spacious rooms, comfortable furniture, the balcony was amazing place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and chill. Just what we needed.

The Verdelho apartment exceeded our expectations. It was clean, well equipped and spacious. You have to allow for the fact that it's an old building and it's three floors up to the apartment and the apartment has rooms on four levels. Water pressure a bit low but everything worked. The location was ideal for us being in the centre of Funchal. There are lots of restaurants nearly. We booked both arrival and departure pick ups which were very good.

Zentral gelegene Unterkunft. Eine tolle Terrasse über den Dächern von Funcal.
Viele Treppen innerhalb der Wohnung. Die Bäder sind nicht wirklich topp, aber okay. In der Küche leider nur Leuchtstoffröhren an der Decke.

Es war okay. Beim nächsten mal würde ich die Wohnung nicht noch einmal buchen.

Perfect Location to explore Funchal by walking; very professional contact with renting company, providing lots of extras and information; we had appartement Verdelho and espcially enjoyed the little balcony with the great view; appartement was clean, quite big, very well equipped and as shown on pictures - we really enjoyed our stay!
Don‘t rent this appartement if your not fit to do a lot of stairs (3 floors and in our appartement rooms on another 3 floors 😅) or with huge or heavy luggage.
The lounge on the balcony needs an update.

This apartment is equipped with everything you would need for a self catering holiday but very close to great restaurants if you don’t want to cook . The municipal gardens are lovely and directly opposite the apartment.
It is unsuitable for anyone less able as there are a lot of stairs both inside and out of the apartment

Drzwi do budynku nie domykały się, a klamka od wewnątrz czasem pozostawała w dłoni. W związku tym budynek czasem nie był zamnkięty, co było problemem ostatniego dnia, kiedy trzeba było zostawić gdzieś bagaże po wymeldowaniu, a przed wyjazdem.

The top floor apartment is really spacious and has a private balcony over the rooftops of Funchal. The location is perfect.
The apartment has many stairs and the old building's shortcomings: the toilet flush did not work, the taps were difficult to use and the water flow was low. But if you don't let it bother you, you'll definitely enjoy your stay here.

The apartment is very big and clean. It has everything we needed. They received us with a bottle of Madeira wine and a nice welcome card.
The only issue are the stairs. There is no elevator in the building and in the apartment there were many stairs too. For example you need to take the stairs to go to the toilet. For me that's not an issue but if you are traveling with more senior people then this could be a problem.

It’s a very nice apartment on multiple levels so lots of stairs. Need to go to the bathroom during the night? You’ll need to go up and down a half flight of stairs. OK, so not a big deal if you are young.

Before check-in, I was getting up to 4 emails a day from them. Then when we needed the coffee maker fixed, complained about no water in the bathroom sink, and a non-flushing toilet, I heard crickets.

I paid for parking and was given a key card that stopped working after two days when I paid for four. At 6 am, I went to get out of the garage and the card didn’t work. Luckily someone came in and used their key to let me out. Otherwise my friend would have had to pay for a taxi to the airport.

Other than that, it’s a great location, nicely refurbished very old apartment.
