Live the centenary history of Madeira Embroidery in an apartment with excellent design and memories of regional culture.
Right in the centre of Funchal, right next to the Farmers Market, this fantastic apartment offers you all the convenience.
Set in a building that housed an old Madeira Embroidery Factory, this property is divided into six independent fractions, each named after well-known Madeira Embroidery stitching.
With a modern and functional architecture, these studios have small notes that take you back to the past and make you know a little about the embroidery of the island. With two bedroom with double bed, two bathroom and fully equipped kitchen, the apartment has the capacity to accommodate four people.
For those who like to enjoy a good time of relaxation, you can enjoy the pleasant communal terrace, available on the rooftop of the building, which has a kitchen, so you can cook your meals.
On the same terrace there is a common laundry room to the building.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
Drapes is situated in a privileged central area, right in the heart of Funchal. Within a few steps from the famous Farmers’ Market (Mercado dos Lavradores) and the historic centre of Funchal (locally known as ‘Zona Velha’), from here you can explore by foot many of the main tourist attractions of our beautiful town. (e.g. The Cable Car, Funchal Marina, CR7 Museum, Cathedral, Madeira Wine Lodge, etc ...)
Just right in front of the building you have an excellent connection to the local and intercity bus network, connecting you to all places in the island, and covering both the east and west regions, so that it will not be necessary to go far in case you want to benefit from these services. In addition to these facilities, the building has a shopping centre with several shops, cafés, restaurants and a medium-sized supermarket.
GETTING AROUND
With a bus stop practically at the doorstep, transport will be no problem for our guests.
Although a aerobus bus stop for airport arrivals and departures is within 2 minutes walk distance from the flat, we recommend the private transfer service as the best option to get to the flat. Contact us in advance to schedule a private transfer car with our local partners. It is cheaper than taking a taxi by your own in the airport!
GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to all areas of the flat.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (E.g. passport, identity card).
- Check-in must be scheduled in advance. In case the check-in is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours prior arrival, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also provide a crib, a baby high chair and a baby bathtub if needed. First aid kit, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are available in all properties.
ATTENTION
Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. When you arrive, you will receive a link to pay this municipal tax.

This was a great place to stay (we took 2x 1bed flats), close to everything we needed for a visit to Funchal.
The apartment is generally well equipped but fundamently lacks a proper sofa and a dining table/chairs.
The lack of elevator makes it a challenge if you are carrying large bags or if you just went for the groceries. The other not so positive point to note was a noticeable lack of maintenance. Upon request this was promptly resolved.
Finally, communication with the host representative revealed challenging, probably we were just unlucky with the individual who seemed sort of imature and revealed lack of client relation skills.

We had great stay, the balcony on top top is a perfect place to spend evening. Very spacious and clean. Host is helpful and responsive. During check in we had a problem with double booking and someone was in our room, but it was solved quickly and cleaning stuff was really helpful and caring.

Unterkunft hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Dachterasse ist wirklich schön. Offenbar hat das Haus eine Vergangenheit in der Textilindustrie von Madeira, worauf viele Ausstellungsstücke in Vitrinen, ein großes Wandgemäle (außen) und alte Photos hinweisen. Leider gibt es keine weiterführenden Erklärungen.
Geschirrspüler und eine Schiebetür sollten alsbald gecheckt und ggf. repariert werden.

Unterkunft ist sehr Zentral gelegen und von daher alles in der Stadt gut zu Fuß oder mit dem ÖPNV (Bushaltestelle vorm Haus) erreichbar. Die Wohnung (eigentlich 2 Wochnungen) ist sehr geräumig und die Dachterasse ist ideal um den Tag bei einem Gläschen Wein ausklingen zu lassen.
Die Tiefgarage des angrenzenden Supermarkts würde ich aufgrung des Preises (15€ über Nacht) nicht empfehlen. Günstiger kann man (2,50€ + 2,50€ über Nacht) hier parken: Parque de estacionamento da Amazónia (R. Nova da Alegria 14b, 9060-204 Funchal, Portugal).

Anfitrião muito prestável e simpático. Tivemos uma situação com as toalhas por uma de nós ter pintado o cabelo recentemente e foram muito compreensivos. Espaço muito bonito e central. O acesso ao terraço dá uma magia extra, ainda lá tomámos um pequeno almoço muito descansado. Super recomendamos.

Ukoliko želite da provedete odmor sa prijateljima ili porodicom ovo je pravo mesto za vas. Apartmani su čisti, dobro opremljeni, lokacija je izuzetno povezana sa gradom, a samo autobusko stajalište je odmah ispred ulaza. Poseban akcenat bi stavili na terasu i opremljenost iste, kao i pogled koji ne manjka oduševljenje. Prezadovoljni smo i ako nas put nanese na iste staze rado ćemo se vratiti domaćinima.

Zameldowanie sprawiło o tyle kłopot, że w wiadomości podany jest numer mieszkania, które się wynajmuje a na miejscu okazuje się, że mieszkanie nie ma numeru tylko nazwę. Kod, który mieliśmy pasował do drugiego mieszkania do którego próbowaliśmy się dostać. Samo mieszkanie było bardzo duże i niczego nie brakowało. Niestety chyba dłuższy czas nie było wynajmowane i wietrzone przez co czuć było na początku wilgoć co widoczne było przede wszystkim w łazience gdzie pojawił się grzyb na suficie. Piętro wyżej dostępny jest taras z huśtawką więc wieczorem można było dalej popijać ponche ;) Zlokalizowane w centrum na przeciwko targu więc wszędzie było blisko. Autobusy z/na lotnisko odjeżdża spod mieszkania. Dla ludzi, którzy wynajmują auto na kilka dnia mogę powiedzieć, że 600m od mieszkania jest duży parking, który kosztuje 5€ za dobę.

Un séjour agréable malgré de nombreux petits soucis :
- une arrivée très mal organisée : les codes d’entrée n’étaient pas ceux indiqués, et les explications n’était pas très claires, ni même correctement, énoncé au préalable.
- L’alarme anti intrusion s’est déclenchée plus d’une fois, impossible de l’arrêter, Et impossible de contacter l’hôte en temps voulu.
- L’alarme incendie s’est également déclenchée, alors que l’on faisait un simple repas. Là aussi, impossible de contacter l’hôte alors que tout le voisinage a été réveillé.
- La ventilation dans la salle de bain n’était pas opérationnelle.
- Les joints de la douche Sont sans doute à changer, puisqu’à chaque fois, une fuite importante été constatée.
Autrement, c’est beau lieu, très design, je pense qu’il faut tout de même revoir certaines choses, à commencer par l’organisation qui n’est pas clair, surtout pour des touristes.

Die beiden obersten Wohnungen, die wir zu viert gebucht hatten, sah genau so aus, wie auf den Fotos.
Bis auf ein wenig schwarzen Schimmel im großen Badezimmer, kann nichts negatives angemerkt werden.
Tolle Lage, genug Platz für 4 Personen mit den zwei Schlafzimmern (mit Doppelbetten) und 2 Badezimmern.
An Besteck, Handtücher, WLAN und Bettdecken/Bezüge hat nichts gefehlt.
Die Dachterasse ist echt besonders schön!
Man Blickt zwar frontal auf ein 4-Sterne Hotel. Aber rechts und Links sieht man entweder das Meer oder die Stadt Funchal mit ihren unzähligen Lichtern.
Hier Abends mit den Freunden ein Bierchen zu trinken macht echt viel Spaß.
Auch auf der Dachterasse zu Kochen/ Pizza zu machen ist wunderschön.
Alles in allem eine 4.7/5 möglichen Sternen von uns.
