Right in the centre of Funchal, right next to the Farmers Market, this fantastic apartment offers you all the convenience.
Set in a building that housed an old Madeira Embroidery Factory, this property is divided into six independent fractions, each named after well-known Madeira Embroidery stitching.
With a modern and functional architecture, these studios have small notes that take you back to the past and make you know a little about the embroidery of the island. With two bedroom with double bed, two bathroom and fully equipped kitchen, the apartment has the capacity to accommodate four people.
For those who like to enjoy a good time of relaxation, you can enjoy the pleasant communal terrace, available on the rooftop of the building, which has a kitchen, so you can cook your meals.
On the same terrace there is a common laundry room to the building.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
Drapes is situated in a privileged central area, right in the heart of Funchal. Within a few steps from the famous Farmers’ Market (Mercado dos Lavradores) and the historic centre of Funchal (locally known as ‘Zona Velha’), from here you can explore by foot many of the main tourist attractions of our beautiful town. (e.g. The Cable Car, Funchal Marina, CR7 Museum, Cathedral, Madeira Wine Lodge, etc ...)
Just right in front of the building you have an excellent connection to the local and intercity bus network, connecting you to all places in the island, and covering both the east and west regions, so that it will not be necessary to go far in case you want to benefit from these services. In addition to these facilities, the building has a shopping centre with several shops, cafés, restaurants and a medium-sized supermarket.
GETTING AROUND
With a bus stop practically at the doorstep, transport will be no problem for our guests.
Although a aerobus bus stop for airport arrivals and departures is within 2 minutes walk distance from the flat, we recommend the private transfer service as the best option to get to the flat. Contact us in advance to schedule a private transfer car with our local partners. It is cheaper than taking a taxi by your own in the airport!
GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to all areas of the flat.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS
- According to Portuguese law, all guests are required to present a valid ID. (E.g. passport, identity card).
- Check-in must be scheduled in advance. In case the check-in is not scheduled within a maximum of 48 hours prior arrival, guests will be subject to the availability of our team.
- All bed linen and towels are provided. We can also provide a crib, a baby high chair and a baby bathtub if needed. First aid kit, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are available in all properties.
ATTENTION
Please be advised that a Tourist Fee will be charged to all persons staying overnight in the municipality of Funchal. Thus, all customers staying in tourist resorts and/or accommodation establishments, aged 13 or over, will be charged €2.00 per person/night, up to a maximum of 7 nights and a maximum of €14.00 per person/stay. When you arrive, you will receive a link to pay this municipal tax.

Rented both adjoining units on second floor. No elevator. Very nice place. Fully equipped kitchens. One also has a dishwasher. Very easy check in with the keycode at the door. The 4th floor rooftop terrace is the greatest. Sea view with tables, full kitchen, bathroom and laundry room (no charge). Location is perfect. Central to everything. So many cafes, bars, restaurants within minutes walk. Next door is Pingo Doce grocery store which has everthing. And there is a bus stop outside the door. And an AeroBus stop which is 6 Euros from or to airport or you can taxi it for 25-30. Highly recommend this place if you don't require an elevator.

Love Madeira but have fallen out with the hills.The location of Drapes gives hill free access to numerous bars and restaurants.Plus only a short walk to the numerous local bus routes.

Nice and spacious place to stay. Staff was helpful and everything was clean. We stayed here for 8 days and the room got cleaned in between as well. We only got 1 towel each, would have been nice if we got more towels instead of having to ask for it. Would recommend to use the physical key instead of the PIN code, the door was not always unlocking with the code.

Emplacement idéal. En face du marché, près de tous les restaurants. Parking dans le supermarché à côté de l'appartement. L'appartement a été complètement rénové avec beaucoup de goût et est très beau. Petite vue mer. Un toit terrasse super sympa avec cuisine extérieure disponible pour l'ensemble des appartements. Le bruit du rooftop de l'hôtel d'en face (certains soirs seulement), et de l'avenue... mais tout à fait acceptable. Pas de parking gratuit. Le manque d'informations... nous avons découvert le toit terrasse par hasard le dernier jour.

My daughter and I had a great stay here. Basically we had 2 apartments, 2 kitchens, 2 shower rooms and 2 bedrooms. All amenities were provided. Roof top terrace was great.

If you want action in the heart of Funchal this is your stay. Everything is right there in walking distance. The bus stops directly in front of the apartment. There is a terrace on the rooftop with outdoor kitchen for everyone to use. It’s great!!!

Slap bang in town,couldn't be in a better location for access to all parts of the city. Everything is on the doorstep, the bus stop is actually directly on it. Spotlessly clean and more than comfortable enough for a city break. Every conceivable utensil in the kitchen. Good shower. Excellent wi fi. Would definitely stay here again.

The Drapes by Design accommodation was exceptionally well equipped, clean and spacious. Despite being on a bus route & main road, the double glazing with aircon meant this was not an issue. The entrance door at street level was just behind a major bus stop, however the location was great - opposite the main Funchal market, old town and restaurants in one direction and main shopping areas in the other, and only a couple of minutes to the sea front and promenade. A big plus was being able to reach everywhere without having to go up the many steep hills in Madeira (especially where many hotels are). Our 1st floor apartment (no lift) had a private terrace with mountain views, but all flats had access to the large communal roof terrace, with sea views. nothing

We were initially concerned about the Location as on a busy road with street access behind a busy bus stop. However, once inside the modern glass door (pin code access) everything about the double apartment 2A on second floor (easy stairs) was faultless. Double glazing and air conditioning meant the road was irrelevant. I’ve never stayed in an apartment as well equipped (even a dishwasher!), spacious and clean as this. BBC and Sky news kept us in touch. We had a small private terrace at the back as well as the big shared roof terrace, with great sea views from both the flat and the roof terrace. Almost opposite the central Funchal Market, with the old town restaurants (including a great fado place) and poncha bars, towards the fort in one direction or the main shopping street in the other, with the seafront very close. No steep hills to negotiate unlike the main hotel areas! Highly recommended.

Il faut en acheter localement ou venir avec les siennes - un couple allemand avec deux enfants ont investi tout le bâtiment, y compris la terrasse où séchait leur linge à longueur de journée, ne fermant pas leur porte quand ils parlaient ou jouaient avec les enfants

We really liked the apartment. Originally we booked a different one, but there was a problem with wifi, so Travel To Madeira arranged the change for us. Contact with them is fast and easy. Apartment was nice and clean. There are lots of shops, restaurants and farmers market nearby. A bit noisy from the street, but we got used to it very quickly. I would recommend staying in that place :)
